Getting Started
Before you begin using Silicon Dragon it's worth taking some time to customise the software for your own use. This is done via the Admin pages. It's best to go through in the order described here.
On this page you can select the names of the instructors/group leaders who will be taking sessions. Simply click "Add" to enter the name of the instructor and click "OK". If you make a mistake then just delete the name you've entered and enter again. Note that the default setting has an instructor named "Default". You will probably want to delete this entry.
Here you select the login names of people you want to have access to the database, and the level of access they have. As default the users are "Admin", with admin privileges, "Full" with full privileges and "Partial" with partial privileges. Since all new databases have these it is best to delete all of these and replace with your own. Note that you won't be able to delete the "Admin" user until you have created a new admin user. Only administrators can access this page so if you delete your only admin user then you can never add another one!
To add a new user click "Add", enter the name, password and level of access and hit submit. Passwords are encrypted so they can never be accessed after you click "Save". Make sure you remember your password! To delete a user simply hit "Delete" in the Summary page.
Different users have different access rights. You can find a summary here: User Permissions.
This is where you set up the structure of your club and what you sell. The first option is how you prefer to list members, by first name (e.g. James T Kirk) or last name (Kirk, James T). This affects how members are displayed through-out the entire product.
The next option is to define what "levels" your members can have. For example if you run a martial arts club these might be belts, from white to black. If a golf club, they might be handicaps, and so on. Using the controls you can add or remove entries, or change the order. Note that you can only remove the selected element and new entries come in at the bottom, however you may move several entries up or down at once allowing you to quickly place a new entry.
After "levels" you must set the types of session you have. These might be "Training, Competition" or simply "Seniors, Juniors" and so on. The interface for this option is the same as the "levels" option
On the membership entry page there is an option for "Membership Details". This is there in case you have an entry that always accompanies memberships (other than membership number). This could be "Insurance Number", or "Branch", and so on. Here you can set the text for this entry and decide whether this entry should be compulsory to fill in or not.
The final list is for the items that your organisation sells. The interface for adding items is the same as for "levels" and "session types" above.
After you have made your changes you must hit save or all your hard work will be lost. You can hit save along the way as well to make sure that nothing is lost.
On the "Defaults" page you can set up default values for use throughout the product. Defaults save time when using the software. The first section of this is to price your sales items, and put in any description. Select the sales item you wish to price, enter the cost and any other information you wish to get (for example, colour, size) in the Item Details section. Please note that you must save your changes before selecting the next sales item for editing.
On this page you can also set the default number of uses and the cost your saver cards have (if you use these), the cost and default length of memberships, and the default session instructor, session type and session cost. For all of these defaults you may change the values "on-the-fly" within the actual entry, so that although the default cost for a product may be 10.00, at point of sale you may enter a different amount.
That's the software set-up and ready to use! You may now enter members, create notes, sell items and record sessions. For a page by page breakdown please look at the in-depth help.
